Mt. Maculot ---- A year after

Rockies of Mt. Maculot

It's been ONE YEAR after I joined MIT Mountaineering Club at ang Mt. Maculot ang isa sa mga bundok na naakyat ko. Unfortunately, hindi ako nakasama sa Mt. Maculot this year due to some conflicts sa schedules, but I will share my experience to you what happened a year ago.

Mt. Maculot climb is part of the club's anniversary, aakyat muna ng Mt. Maculot at mag-stay ng overnight (yung iba dayhike) then kinabukasan, pupunta sa Rockies at bababa na for the celebration.

The Climb

I remember, gabi kami umakyat nun. From Manila, sasakay ng bus going to Lemery. Mga 2 hours din ung byahe. Then, bababa sa Cuenca. From the arc ng Cuenca, sasakay ng tricycle going to "Mountaineers Stop Over". Nag-ayos ng mga gamit then nag-start trek na kami. Noon, we take the Old Trail. Ngayon, isinara na yung trail na yun, iba na yung daanan. Last February lang binuksan ung New Trail ng Maculot.

Ang old trail, may mga stop overs din (mga anim ata) at "steep and very negotiable" yung trail (Hindi ko lang alam yung itsura ng new trail ng Mt. Maculot) although marami din "ligaw" but if you know or may kasama ka na may alam sa trail, hindi ka maliligaw.

The Campsite

May tindahan sa taas at magaganda din ang view sa taas. Nung gabi na dumating kami sa campsite ay napakalamig. Lalo na't yung tent namin nun ay nasa ibang kasamahan namin.

Kinaumagahan ay napaka-init naman. It's a perfect time na pumunta sa Rockies. Rockies has more attractive view than the summit, so usually rockies talaga ang puntahan talaga ng mga mountaineers dito sa Maculot. Kumbaga "Popular Destination"; kumbaga sa Mt. Pulag - Sea of Clouds, Mt. Tarak Ridge - The ridge itself, Mt. Romelo - Yung mga Falls and so on.

Rockies

Malapit lang sa campsite. 30 minutes lang nasa rockies ka na. Be prepare for breathtaking assault as the trail gets steeper as it needs to hold on to the rocks as a support.

Descent

After some photo ops at the Rockies, it's time to go down. Ganun pa rin, "steep and very negotiable" din. Pero ingat lang at madulas pababa.

Maculot 2013

According sa mga ka-club ko na umakyat. Same pa rin yung sa taas. Only the trail lang yung nagbago. Steep pa din ang trail but very negotiable din. Wala nga lang nagbago sa difficulty ng Maculot, only iba na ang makikita mo at madadaanan mo, unlike sa old trail na nakasanayan na ng mga umaakyat ng Maculot.
